Music of the Delta
Saturday, May 4, 1 p.m. at Winterville Mounds. Music of the Delta. Winterville Mounds director and ethnomusicologist Mark Howell will discuss the different kinds of music heard in the Delta from the beginning of its settlement until the present day. A variety of instrument artifacts will be shown and played, as well as songs from Native American, African American, and Euro-American traditions. Friday–Saturday, May 10-11, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Winterville Mounds. First Annual Winterville Knapp-In. Knappers from around the country will gather to trade tools and demonstrate the ancient techniques. For those interested in participating, flint knap kits will be available for sale.
