The Mississippi State Fair comes to town today bringing with it all the fried food, rides, and crowds we love. These images show the fair in 1977. Looks familiar, doesn’t it? Thirty years later, and the fair is still timeless…
The back of the Winter Building is across Jefferson Street from the main entrance to the fair (at Jefferson and Amite Streets), you’ll see the mechanical plant and the five story limestone building behind it. The visitor entrance is on North Street, so we are just a short walk up the hill. Come by and get started on your family tree, take a look at old newspapers, or just have a look around! Library hours are Monday 9-5, Tuesday-Friday 8-5, and Saturday 8-1.
The Old Capitol Museum is also a short walk up the hill–you can see the dome from the fairgrounds. If you haven’t visited this National Historic Landmark, stop by for a tour! Visitor entrance is on State Street. Museum hours are Tuesday-Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 1-5 (closed Mondays).

Other MDAH holdings on the Mississippi State Fair include records of the Fair Commission, subject files, more photographs, and miscellaneous papers and booklets.
