Hurricane Camille Hit Today in 1969

Hurricane Camille hit the Gulf Coast on August 17, 1969 with 200 mile per hour winds and high seas, causing widespread damage to Mississippi’s coastal areas. An estimated 259 people were killed by the storm and associated flooding across the southeastern United States.
